Corel has established a beach-head with Lenovo by placing several of its office productivity products--including Corel WordPerfect Office--on many Lenovo systems straight out of the box.

For those of us who view WordPerfect with fond memories, the latest out of the Corel HQ in Ottawa, Canada is friendly news, indeed.

Here's an interesting question: "When was the last time you heard of Corel having to issue half a dozen or more patches or fixes for their products?"

Corel has linked up with Lenovo to provide several products on new systems. Check out the following link for the full details: Computer World.

Do you suppose that this move has anything to do with Corel appointing David Dobson (Former IBM Exec) as its CEO in 2005? It would certainly make sense to me. (Smart move, Corel!)

Many will see this move as a problem of compatibility for companies exiting the hold of Microsoft on the desktop. However, savvy IT asset managers will know that compatibility should not be an issue--provided the company is utilizing effective internal controls of technology assets and document management.

Could this trend represent a cost-cutting strategy for your company? Could this be just one more instance of someone writing on the wall of our mutual tech futures? Maybe it will--once everyone has passed through their MS Addiction Withdrawal Symptoms. One thing is guaranteed: this should be interesting.
